Paint Colour Spotlight: Pink

It’s the time of year that after the holiday decor gets packed away, many of us look around our spaces and feel the need for a little refresh. If you’re looking to update your space with a fresh shade of white paint or a softer neutral, I’ve got you covered here and here.

But if you’re leaning towards something a little more colourful, you’re in the right place! To kick off 2024, this month I’ll be sharing some colourful home inspiration and rounding up all my favourite paint colours, hue by hue. Find all the colour spotlights here: yellow, red, blue, green and brown.

The first post in my colour spotlight series features… pink! This hue can be a hard sell for many, but hear me out. The pink inspiration images and paint colour picks I’m sharing today are sophisticated and enveloping, and not like the bubble-gum pink that we think of for a little girl’s room.

Just like a pink sweater looks amazing on pretty much every skin tone, pink rooms are almost universally flattering. I love recommending a pinky-beige paint colour in a low-light north-facing room to warm things up.

The key to finding a pink that looks sophisticated and not like Barbie’s dream house, is to pick a shade that is desaturated or muted. The warmth of the pink will come through and feel cozy and welcoming, but it won’t feel like a giant dose of Pepto-Bismol.

Whereas the millennial pink shades that were popular in the early aughts were brighter and had cooler undertones, look for pink paints that have a terracotta, rust, or dusty undertone.

Try pairing pink wall with rich jewel tones (such as burgundy or emerald green) and brass accents to add sophistication to your colour scheme. Shades of charcoal gray or navy blue contrast beautifully with pink: if you’re feeling brave, consider these colour on millwork or on the walls in an adjoining space.
